Pen Pal Club (2011-2015)
8 Learning Outcomes
Description
Was Vice President last year and now President this year. Organizing and running meetings for Pen Pal Club. Goal of club is to help the children learn critical reading and writing skills through a creative and fun outlet such as pen pal letters. Tightens community bond, becoming role models to the kids in our local communities.
Pen Pal Club had always interest me from the start of freshmen year. I love children and I've always made it a mission of mines to get myself involved with helping littles children in any way I can. One outlet was through pen pal. This was the only club in which I was president in and it taught me a lot on how to allocate my time and plan out events/meetings along with how to work well with my officiers and members. I was in charge of delivering letters, holding meetings, contacting the teachers, and allocating tasks to my officiers. Throughout this year I've managed to bring some changes into pen pal in order to make the club more interactive and fun. Instead of just creating holiday themed letters to the children I organized a Valentines letter contest to encourage members to create their best looking letters. I also used the Pen Pal budget in order to buy trinkets for the members to stick onto their letters in order to "jazz" their letters up.
- Undertaking new challenges
- Showing perseverance and commitment
- Planned and initiated activities
- Working collaboratively with others
